Fund the I.D.E.A is a conceptual campaign made in partnership with the ACLU. Through the duration of this project, I received guidance from the ACLU’s Creative Director, Eric Ziminsky. Within a 6 week scope, I completed research, branding guidelines, and deliverables for my campaign.

Using the ACLU as a foundation, develop a campaign/identity for a chosen cause. The final deliverables include well-researched messaging, promotional materials, and a brand kit in order to maintain visual consistency.

01 About the Project / Research

About the ACLU

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that works to defend the rights and liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, and laws. Their work spans a wide range of platforms, including social media, merchandise, protest materials, and more.

The Brief

Using the ACLU as a foundation, develop a campaign and identity for a chosen cause. The final deliverables
include well-researched messaging, promotional materials, and a brand kit that maintains consistency.

This is the work of a student branding project completed with feedback from the ACLU's Creative Director. This project does not represent or reflect the ACLU's official work or positions.

The Cause

The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act is a law that was put into effect in 1975. Following it conception, Congress claimed that the government could handle 40% of the cost that would be needed to sustain students with disabilities.

Today only 12% of the promised federal aid amount has been distributed.

Although the design portion of this project was completed individually, the initial research was conducted in groups. My partners and I created the presentation below, which highlights our primary research findings along with the four requested mood boards. I also included my research into key data points, which ultimately guided my campaign's core concept: advocating for increased funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

04 The Call-to-Action

The Congress Call Script is a double-sided leaflet and companion webpage designed to encourage community advocacy for fully funding the I.D.E.A. The website mockups use the ACLU website as a template with custom campaign graphics.

Alongside the call-to-action, I designed supporting campaign merchandise.

05 Lessons Learned

While working on this project under the guidance of the ACLU’s Creative Director, I gained valuable insight not only into design, but also into the process of building a campaign from the ground up. One of the most important parts of the project was the preliminary research. While my initial focus was broadly on disability rights, it took digging into real case studies, legislation, and data to narrow that focus into a single, clear and actionable objective.
